Mr. Gavin Sommerson, along with representatives from the UK government and private sector, visited Mongolia to participate in the UK–Mongolia Infrastructure Forum scheduled for 27 November 2025. Connected Places Catapult is an innovation accelerator supported by the UK government, specializing in developing smart solutions and digital innovations in the urban development and transport sectors.

The main areas of activity of the organization include:

Urban Innovation: Developing smart cities, enhancing digital infrastructure, and creating technological solutions to improve the quality of life for residents.

Transport Innovation: Supporting new technologies such as green and sustainable transport, autonomous driving systems, and digital integration of public transport.

Connecting Innovators: Linking government, private sector, research institutions, and startups to promote collaborative development.

Research, Testing, and Demonstration Projects: Assisting in the practical implementation of new technological solutions through pilot and demonstration projects.

During the meeting, the parties discussed how the organization could support the development of the Khushig Valley Economic Free Zone and potential avenues for collaboration. They also explored the possibility of applying the “10-Minute City” planning experience from Milton Keynes, implemented with the support of Connected Places Catapult, in Mongolia, particularly within the Khushig Valley Economic Free Zone.
